He was definitely struggling. He seemed to have lost his magic touch, the very magic touch that gave him a wonderful 2017. But Mikolaj ‘Elazer’ Ogonowski fought back, like only real champions can.
After narrowly surviving Ro32 of WESG 2017, Elazer got a second place in Ro16 Group D, managing to advance to the Playoffs: he’s now one of the top 8 players in one of the most prestigious StarCraft II events.
WESG 2017: Ro16 Group D
Lady Luck drawn both Elazer and his teammate Julian ‘Lambo’ Brosig in Group D. This QLASH derby was their first official match in Ro16, and what a match: the Polish player won against the German one, but just barely with a score of 3-2
After ‘Serral’s win over ‘Bly’ (3-0), Elazer had just to defeat the Ukrainian player in his second match to book a spot in the Playoffs. Mikolaj didn’t disappoint expectations, destroying ‘Bly’ 3-0 so that his defeat (3-0) against ‘Serral’ in the third and last match became irrelevant.
Lambo fought like a lion, but after the first loss against his teammate, he lost to ‘Serral’ and ‘Bly’ as well (3-0 and 3-1). For the German player, getting to Ro16 is still a very good result, as he had to face the world’s elite of StarCraft II.
Let the Playoffs begin!
Other than ‘Serral’ and ‘Elazer’ in Group D, six other players advanced to the Playoffs: ‘Dark’ and the Italian ‘Raynor’ in Group A, ‘Classic’ and ‘Neeb’ in Group B and ‘Maru’ and ‘Scarlett’ in Group C.

WESG 2017 quarterfinals and semifinals will be played on March 17th in a Best of 5 format, while the Finals (March 18th) will be played in a Best of 7 format.
